Whether you’re fasting or trying to follow a diet, sticking to your goals can be hard.
Let’s look at some tips that can make the struggle a little easier.
Plan Ahead
This may seem like an obvious point but it’s a biggie. So many times we fail because we failed to plan!
Write down every situation or temptation you can think of that could come up that might throw you off. Make sure you list the ones that usually derail you.
Next, write down a plan for when those arise. And when they do, put your plan into action.
Know Your Why
What is your reason for wanting to lose weight?
There needs to be a strong reason. Something you want more than you want that food you crave. Something that will keep you going when the going gets hard.
Figure out what your why is. Write it down and keep it somewhere that you’ll see frequently.
Find a Buddy
Having someone who has the same sort of goals that you do is incredibly helpful!
You will have someone to turn to for encouragement. And the act of you giving someone else support helps you to stay strong yourself. It’s a win-win!
Join the Right Social Media Groups
Look for active groups that support your specific diet goals. This is a great way to find that buddy support if you don’t have that person in real life. Seeing the progress of others can be super motivating!
If you’re fasting, we’d love to have you join us in the Official Fasting for Weight Loss group, one of the largest and most active water fasting communities on FB—you’ll get lots of support there!
If you’re doing Keto or Low Carb, or any other diet, there are tons of social media groups around. Look for ones that are active and that align with your current goals.
Work With a Coach
If you find a good coach, not only will you get accountability, motivation, and support, but you’ve got someone who can answer any questions that come up.
There is something I’ve found out while working with my clients as a coach. When people invest money in hiring a coach, they become much more serious about reaching their goals!
Share Your Progress
Sharing your journey with friends on social media is a great way to stay motivated. It keeps you accountable. And when your friends are rooting for you every day, it gives you another reason to keep going.
Also, you never know when seeing your journey might help one of your friends, too.
Watch Videos and Listen to Podcasts
Watch videos and listen to podcasts daily from your favorite Fasting, Keto, or weight loss experts.
This will keep you motivated and you can also learn tips and tricks to help you push through.
Get an App
There are lots of fun tracking apps available for Fasting and for the Keto/LowCarb lifestyle.
Waking up every day and seeing your progress will encourage you to keep going!
Try Affirmations and Visualizations
Affirmations are simply positive thoughts or words that support your new lifestyle and the goals you are aiming for. They are usually stated in present tense and using positive words.
Examples:
- I am strong.
- I eat only the foods that support my healthiest weight.
- Fasting is good for me.
- I easily stick to my weight loss goals.
There are affirmation apps available, or you can just make up your own. Repeat them throughout the day. You can also listen to them at night as you’re sleeping.
Visualization is imagining yourself at the weight that you want to be.
Create a scene in your mind—what would you look like? What would you be doing?
Visualize that scene and play it in your mind like a movie a few times a day and at night just before you fall asleep.
If you have trouble visualizing, there are guided visualizations that can help get you started.
Check Out Hypnosis
Weight loss and bad food habits often are rooted in long-held subconscious beliefs. Hypnotherapy can reach you at a much deeper level to help you make positive changes.
Look for a reputable hypnotherapist in your area. There are also apps available with pre-recorded hypnosis sessions.
Self-hypnosis is also an option. There is lots of information available online, in books, and videos, on how self-hypnosis works and how to use it.
Try EFT
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. It is a body therapy technique that involves tapping on specific points called meridian points as you repeat certain phrases.
Because EFT works on an emotional level, it can really help with those food habits that are rooted in our emotions.
You Can Do This!
Most importantly, don’t give up. Every day is a brand new start.
Wishing you success with all weight loss goals!
